I have many thoughts on this book and the main one is thus: sometimes book should stay as standalones.
This acts as a sort of "prequel" to Six Crimson Cranes, as it is the stepmother's story in this one. I thought that it was nice to get a backstory to someone we thought was a "villain" at first

Last year I had the absolute pleasure of reading The Poison Season! First off, thank you to Inkyard Press and Mara for a copy of this arc!
This was a solid YA gothic horror book. It definitely feels comparative to something like Rory Powers or Erin Craig.
So...when is book two coming out? Because that ending!
PLEASE tell me there is going to be a sequel. Because that last line -- and that epilogue were EVERYTHING.
