Review
Thank you to Orbit for an ARC of this book!
I have very conflicted feelings on this book, on the one hand I thought the idea and concept was absolutely amazing. I loved the idea that our FMC wasn’t good — that she was the villainess in this book. I think what let me down were a few things:
– the slow pacing. I found this book VERY slow paced to an extent that I wanted to skip through entire chapters because I didn’t care.
– the lack of investment in the characters
This second thing is what is hard, because at points I did like Binsa, and I thought that she could be such an interesting character, but I also found they I felt she lacked depth. I wanted to get behind her — but sometimes you just couldn’t. I get that she is supposed to be more like an irredeemable character, so that didn’t bother me, but I would have liked more of that then…
I think my favorite character was Medha and Ilan they were definitely the most interesting of them all. I felt the most compelled by them.
I think part of the issue I ran into was that I struggled to piece the world together a bit in that sometimes I felt the world building needed more to it, so it was understandable to outside viewers. It is all fine to slowly reveal the world, but I felt not enough was revealed and that let down some of the pacing and character development.
I’ll probably pick up the second book from the library when it comes out, because I am interested in knowing what happens next. Mostly to Medha and Ilan.
