Wooing the Witch Queen

Review

Thank you to Bramble for an ARC of this book!

Okay — are you looking for a fantasy book that is sort of high stakes? But also not? Are you looking for a fantasy book that has romance? Magic? Are you looking for a fantasy book that isn’t quite cozy but also isn’t quite romantasy?

If so, then you are going to LOVE this book. Wooing the Witch Queen is a fun, and generally lighthearted (there are a few darker moments) book.

Felix is an Archduke who ran away because his ministers (also his father-in-law) abused him and he wanted help from one of the villainous queens. Enter Saskia, one of the Queens holding out against the ever encroaching Serafin Empire. Saskia would love to just spend time in her laboratory tinkering with spells, but unfortunately she has just taken her place as rightful queen and now has to deal with the Archduke.

I absolutely adored the dynamic between Saskia and Flex AKA Fabian. It was absolutely hilarious at moments and in turns sweet. This book is definitely Gaslamp style, wherein it’s got a sort of modern feel to it, but is still very much a fantasy book.

it also has lots of the found family trope!

This is an adorable book that people who enjoyed Assistant to the Villain are going to love because it is definitely similar in tone and style to that book.

Fun, romantic with a bit of a fun fantasy plot to go along with it! Highly recommend!

P.S. I love the crow family.
